They received a historic new Cadet Force commission – the first granted by the Queen in more than years – at Belvoir Castle. It recognises the immense contribution made by volunteer staff as leaders of national uniformed youth organisations sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. Between and , the RMC collections consisted merely of arms and military artefacts collections raised, built and maintained by individuals or very small groups of veterans. Although these items were interesting, there was no overall, coordinated story. The museum’s mandate is to collect, conserve, research and display material relating to the history of the RMC, achievements of its former cadets and the earlier naval history of its site, the Point Frederick Dockyard.

The decision followed a complaint by an air force cadet who rejected the ban as a human rights infringement.

The week-long assessment allows current ALOs and enlisted cadre to decide if the cadets are worthy of progressing to the Tactical Air Control Party school house. The cadets were forced to use critical thinking skills to complete tasked obstacles as a team. The cadets were divided into two groups for the tasked obstacle portion of the assessment, leaving the other group time to work out. The cadets began the assessment by completing a physical ability and stamina test. The cadets were ambushed by cadre firing blanks multiple times during the land navigation portion of their assessment.
The cadets were required to trek multiple miles carrying logs and simulated wounded to a medical evacuation zone in limited time. The dress is black tie. All serving and retired Fusilier Officers are encouraged to attend what promises to be another splendid evening. As with all projects of this type it is impossible to please all of the people all of the time. There will be those who do not like the design of the memorial, the size the shape and so on. Where I am sure there is common ground is that our Fusiliers who have lost their lives deserve a lasting and fitting memorial at the Arboretum and the small stone that is there currently does need replacing.
An experienced war memorial stonemason has been appointed; he has previously produced work at the National Arboretum and at the Somme and is highly respected for the quality of his work. Meetings have been held with the Arboretum Authorities who have agreed the general size, shape and design of the new memorial. We are still in negotiation with them over whether it can be put into the same location as the current memorial, but early indications are that this is achievable. It is made from a single piece of dark grey curved granite which ill be polished. The dimensions will be approx 8 ft wide and 6 ft high. It will sit on a plinth of solid granite approx 11 ft by 5 ft engraved with a suitable inscription on the front such as; ‘We Will Remember Them’ not shown in photo and be surrounded by 4 granite benches. After considerable deliberation the design on the memorial was agreed as it is the Colours which all Fusiliers follow and are the embodiment of the Regts achievements and sacrifices.
The antecedent Regts badges have been included on the Memorial as they are the family from which the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers was formed.
The program was created several years ago with the intent of providing ROTC cadets with the skills to recognize the types of property that needs to be respected on the battlefield and during the course of military operations. It makes them aware of the adverse civil-military impact that results from the destruction or damage of historical or sacred sites. The group visited the LeRay Mansion district and some prehistoric sites to learn issues such as requisitioning, occupying and protecting historic structures and identifying unmarked features of importance in the landscape.
